Welcome to the Math Corner!
The value of a problem is not so much coming up with the answer as in the ideas and attempted ideas it forces on the would be solver.

It's not "new math," we promise! The approach to how math is being taught to address the common core requires students to have a deeper understanding of mathematics. The focus is no longer on memorizing facts or procedures, but rather the conceptual understanding that is provided through rich tasks and problems solving. Along with the Common Core Standards, there are 8 Mathematical Practices that are pushing students to go deeper in their understanding and explanation of their thinking . These Practices are being used from Kindergarten through high school, looking different at each level of course. Learn more about the 8 Mathematical Practices and the types of questions you can ask to help your children deepen their understanding.

Navigating the Common CoreThe Council of the Great City Schools' have created parent road maps in mathematics that provide guidance to parents about what their children will be learning and how they can support that learning in grades K-high school. These parent road maps for each grade level also provide three-year snapshots showing how selected standards progress from year to year so that students will be college and career ready upon their graduation from high school. Find your child's grade below!
